The Proxxon drill press stand converts machines with a 20 mm collar into a precision drill press. The stand has ball bearing drive in the feed handle and this enables precision feed without any friction or sticking. The stand has a solid steel column and alu diecast base, these ensuring excellent durability and stability.

The stand may be used with accessories such as the compound table 27110 or vise 28132. The vise could be fixed to the base or slid along the fence on the base. Sliding the vise and workpiece means slots could be machined in the workpiece. This adjustable fence also eases repetitive drilling and positioning.

The headstock is fitted with a stop rod which assists in drilling repetitive holes to identical depths.  A further feature of the 28606 is the tilting headstock. A cutting disk or blade in the drill grinder thus converts the press to a cutoff saw, ideal for parting small extrusions in wood and metals such as model railroad track.
